New Software Added: At the moment, each mail server has their
own copy of webmail running. An issue with this has been that
webmail contributes to a significant portion of the load on the
mail server. And sometimes, during heavy activity the webmail
interface appears slow. We have made the decision to move webmail away from the mail servers and run it on its own,
independent server. This should improve usability and reduce
webmail related issues on our mail servers. DWMail has
been purchased
and licensed, widely regarded as one of the best webmail
interfaces out there. To access webmail, H-Sphere end-users on the Hosteze mail system can use these URLs: The url for webmail
is: http://64.187.103.185/
...Accessing webmail via the Control Panel and via
mail.yourdomain.com will be deactivated in the near future.
Hosteze Resellers can brand the webmail URL by
simply adding a CNAME record to any of their domains or
subdomains pointing to the IP address.

IMPORTANT NOTICE regarding software patches on your websites:
There has been many defacings' across the internet the last 3
weeks, and there are a number of customers that have been hit
within our Servers. If you run ANY prepackaged software, in any
language, ASP/PHP/ASP.NET and they have released newer versions
or security patches, Hosteze would highly recommend you upgrade.
Groups of "hackers" are defacing pages through many known expliots in forums, easy site design tools, WYSIWYG editors,
Joomla, and many other 3rd party software apps. So again if you
run any application please try to see that you update it ASAP,
if you do not update it, expect to get hacked soon; as the
hackers are alive, well and very active!

new signups will be going to this server. .NET 2.0 is fully
supported on this server. To use .NET 2.0, customers will need
to submit a ticket after enabling ASP.NET from their control
panel. By default, the control panel will install .NET 1.1, if
you turn off ASP.NET from the control panel after having 2.0
enabled, it will revert to 1.1 again.

Hosteze announces ASP.NET 2.0 Support: Hosteze today announces
official ASP.NET 2.0 support. All new Windows servers that are
deployed at Hosteze will now have ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0
running simultaneously. All customers/resellers who have
created end-user accounts on or after Nov 17th, 2005 are already
on ASP.NET 2.0 enabled servers. To get ASP.NET 2.0 support on
your domains, simply ensure ASP.NET is activated on your
domain. Activating ASP.NET will automatically install 1.1 on
your domain. After ensuring it is enabled, open a support
ticket requesting your domain to be upgraded to 2.0. Please
specify each domain/sub-domain you wish this upgrade to be
performed on. Once support completes your request, you'd be
able to use ASP.NET 2.0 on the enabled domains.
Customers/resellers who created end-user accounts prior to Nov
17th, 2005 will be on servers not supporting ASP.NET 2.0.
Upgrading these servers to 2.0 has proven to be impossible for
us and can cause serious stability issues. Hence these servers
will not be installed with 2.0 at least in the near future.
However if you need 2.0 support, you can request your account to
be transfered to a supporting server, or simply create a new
account. All new accounts are automatically on 2.0 supporting
servers. If you wish to transfer, simply open a ticket
requesting your account be moved to an ASP.NET 2.0 server. A
$40 one-time transfer fee will be charged.

Re: AOL Forwarding: To update our customers/resellers using
email forwarding to AOL accounts on this issue, it appears that
when spam comes into your AOL account after being forwarded from
your Hosteze account, some customers are reporting this to AOL
as SPAM. AOL then incorrectly analyses the headers and points
to our mail server as the source of spam. If you want to
continue with AOL forwarding, we do request that you do NOT
report any email coming into your AOL account as spam and
instead add all email addresses you wish to block for spamming
to your blacklist from the Hosteze control panel. Additionally,
the "Very Aggressive" filter level for SPAM protection in the
control panel does not work due to a bug in our email server
software. This is a reason why some customers continue to get
large amounts of spam. To correct this issue, you are requested
to change your filter Level to Aggressive instead of Very
Aggressive. With these precautions, customers that need to
forward email to their AOL accounts from their Hosteze email
accounts can continue to do so. If you complain to AOL about
spam that has been forwarded to you via your Hosteze email
account, AOL will simply complain to our ISP Level 3 believing
we are the source of SPAM. We request you not do this. If we
receive any complaints from your account in regards to this
situation, we'd be forced to disable email forwarding altogether
for your account. Please cooperate with us.
|
|

|
AOL Forwarding: It has come to our notice that a number of customers
have setup up their Hosteze email accounts to automatically forward all
incoming email to their AOL email accounts. As a result of this, any
spam coming into your Hosteze email account is being routed to your AOL
email account via our mail server. AOL has been flagging all this spam
coming into their network as coming from our mail server and has been
sending repeated complaints to us and our upstream ISP, even through our
mail server isn't the original source for that spam. At the moment, we
are totally helpless in this situation as AOL is continuing to issue
complaints against us even though we have explained them the situation.
As a result, we are asking all our customers and resellers to cooperate
with us and disable forwarding of mail to AOL accounts. If we receive
AOL complaints of spam going into your AOL mailbox from your Hosteze
email account, we'd be forced to deactivate this forwarding ourselves
for your account. It is absolutely imperative that we stop the
complaints from coming in as AOL is threatening to blacklist mail from
our server. We hope our customers and resellers understand the situation
here and cooperate with us |

New Oracle 10g Database: Today, Hosteze officially launches its
Oracle 10g database services becoming among the first web
hosting companies to lower Oracle 10g prices substantially
making it more accessible to small businesses and developers. We
see immense potential especially for our existing resellers to
take advantage of low Oracle 10g prices and sell it to a niche
market. Hosteze has been continually adding new features to
enhance customer profitability and ensuring that our customer
and existing reseller platform remains one of the most
affordable, profitable and productive products in the market.
Oracle 10g is available from Windows and Linux packages and
from existing reseller packages. We do encourage existing
resellers to upgrade to take advantage of this opportunity.

New Stand-By Servers Update: Just to update customers. We have
done some successful tests with the new recovery system. We
predict our support staff can restore a corrupted OS within 60
minutes and a corrupted user directory (rare) within 4 hours.
This is under the condition where the 3rd hard disk we keep on
our systems remains intact in any case where we need to recover
a system. The 3rd disk had been installed on our systems
exclusively to house the images of both OS and user partitions.
We have never had a situation where we have lost a 3rd hard disk
(SCSI and not in RAID) along with the primary or secondary ones
together at the same time. In the case of such a situation, we
synchronise our disk images with a backup server in another
facility to ensure no possibility for data loss. But customers
need to realize that in the VERY VERY rare situation where we
lose the OS, we can't recover the OS and also lose the 3rd hard
disk, we will need to restore over network and that can take
substantially longer (up to 24 hours). This system supplements
our disk redundancy we have on all servers (RAID1 or RAID5). We
will always have two backups of customer data, one locally and
one remotely.

New Stand-By Servers: After the Win5 issue, we are in the
process of setting up fully installed stand-by servers for
Windows 2003, Windows 2000 and Red Hat linux. Previously, we had
servers on standby available in case we needed to swap hard
disks. Now we will have servers fully installed with an OS
always available if we need to use them. We are also testing
our new hard disk imaging locally here. We are confident that
in the event of crisis situation where we need to recover a
server, this new system would allow us to do it in 4 to 5
hours. We are hoping to put this into production within 1 week.
The tests will involve extensive trials on Dual XEON SCSI RAID
servers to ensure we can perform recoveries in the future
without issues.

|
|

|
|
11/16/2004 |
|
New 1TB backup servers: We now have new 1TB backup servers in a
separate facility a few miles away from the main facility where
our production servers are housed. We'll be placing all our
backups on those servers now to give added protection against
any possible sitation that may result in the loss of our backup
servers in the main facility (such as a fire although extremely
unlikely due to the excellent fire surpressions systems onsite).
We are taking advantage of a private network between these two
facilities to be able to support this setup. We are now also
testing a new backup procedure that would allow us to take
complete copies of our hard disk partitions (at the sector level
instead of the file-system level) and store them on our remote
backup servers. This new backup procedure simplifies a recovery
procedure (incase of a rare situation of a unrecoverable server
crash) as we could restore the system exactly as it was before
the crash without having to reinstall programs, redo
permissions, etc. We are hoping this will also make restorations
quicker.

11/15/2004 |
|
New Linux Server: We've added a new linux server.
Configuration: OS: RedHat Enterprise 3.0, Dual XEON 2.66GHZ,
73GBx2 SCSI HD RAID1, The server houses web2, mysql2 and pgsql2.

Warning; New ICANN Policy: A new ICANN policy takes place from
Friday that will allow anyone to transfer a domain away from you
unless you deny that request within 5 working domains (unlike
currently where you must accept a request). We urge all
customers registering domains through us to ensure their
domain's have the correct contact details and have the registrar
lock enabled.

9/27/2004 |
|
New Secondary Relay Mail Server: To give redundancy to our mail
system, we have setup a secondary relay mail server - This mail
server will ensure that no email is lost incase the primary mail
server - goes offline. If the primary server does go down, it
will store all email and forward it to the primary mail server
when it goes up. Mail2 is not a public mail server and hence it
cannot be used to send/receive email. Its role is simply as a
backup mail server. To use the secondary mail server, shared
customers must go into their control panel and enable mail relay
on each of their domains from Mail Manager. This will create a
second MX record for your domains.

server cluster. All new VPS signups will now be going to this
server: Configuration: Dual Xeon 2.4GHZ, 4GB DDRAM, 3x73GB SCSI
RAID5 (hot-swap) hard disks, Dual Gigabit Network cards, We have
initially put 4GB of RAM on this server but will expand it upto
12GB of RAM as it reaches capacity, Additionally, this new VPS
server runs VPS 1.2 which is much more stable than the our first
VPS server. We infact plan to take the old VPS server offline
due to constant issues with stability on it and inefficient
memory management.

New SMTP Authentication Implemented: We have enabled SMTP
authentication on our SMTP server. This has been done to ensure
higher reliability while sending emails through our email
server. POP3 before SMTP will not work now and you'll get a
"Relaying by this MTA is not allowed" error message. To correct
this, you need to enable SMTP authentication from your email
client for your email addresses. To achieve this in Outlook, do
this: 1) From Tools > Accounts, select properties for the
desired email address. 2) Change to the Servers Tab. 3) Under
Outgoing Mail Server, check "My Servers Requires
Authentication". Should solve problems as reported from a few
clients.

bulk emailing whether commercial or non-commercial. Bulk emailing is
only allowed to a subscribed recipient list with a simple unsubscribe
procedure provided. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the
customer to ensure that the subscribed recipient list he or she has is
updated and does not generate any complaints from recipients. This

the email sent advertises or links to sites hosted on our servers. On
receiving complaints, Hosteze WILL CHARGE an initial cleanup fee of
$100 if our investigation proves that you are at fault. A second
violation would result in a cleanup fee of $200 and permanent
termination of your account. This announcement has been made due to the
